Abacus Versus Vedic Math - A mom review

Abacus Versus Vedic MAth

Abacus - A system of amthematics that allows us to do additions and subtractions easily with some core formulae.

target audience - any child who knows how to add and subtract.. best standard UCMAS.

Disadvantage - if a child has to attend regular school math (non abacus) after knowing abacus they will use that trick and write the answer.

the normal process and steps will be missed (tis human nature fo find answers the easy way) .... if your child is patient and will do both where applicable please feel free to join.

PErsonally - i have not joined hitu because he is always in a hurry to finish - so his math wil go for a toss.......

VEDI MATH - a system of mathematics that a child can understand only after grade 5 (sq roots, cube rooots etc are also covered).

Extremely useful since the child will know - whwere to use it and where not to..

typically many students derive the answers using this process and then compare their final answer to this - so their scores in math are always good.

EXTREMELY imp for comeptetive exams like eamcet where its multiple choice and timing is an issue.........

MAny centres but its not for kindergarden and primary schoolers.......

HOPE this helps.......

  1. Yes Uma...I completely agree with you that Vedic Maths is important for competitive exams! Abacus in comparison to Vedic Maths is just basic and elementary! Vedic Mathematics has far more applications!~

See your child has just promoted in class three and there's a lot of confusion going on there that wether to chose abacus or vedic maths
As I belong from a bihari family my relatives supported me to go through vedic maths because vedic maths has just got some simple techniques to do sums much more easier but vedic maths also contains some problems to do large sums like cubicroots but as per my advice make your children only to go through the sutras regarding addition substraction and multiplication . As your child gets promoted to next class start making him/her to go through other sutras to perform hard sums and I am sutr that untill class 8 he would be able to perform larger sums in seconds . When I was in class 8 I was taken to my village where I was asked many problems but I managed to give answers within 15 seconds . From then I was known as vedic mathwa wala laika in my village . Thanks and forgive my spelling errors

      bye

  3. abacus is only for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.but vedic maths is from addition till calculus.very advanced it's principles are in one line like "one more than the other" simply +1.one less than the other simply -1.so i prefer vedic maths as you can check your answer easily and it is all interconnected.
